shayMy name is Shay Coyne. I’m currently working freelance in Barcelona, Spain. I collaborate with International House Sabadell as a teacher trainer (running their VYL course and teacher development sessions), International House World Organisation as an online tutor for their CYLT course, journal article contributor (2013 and 2016), and module writer (IHVYL Module 2), as well as working with English for Business as an online and phone tutor. I have worked in EFL for 17 years as a teacher, YL coordinator, ADoS, Teacher Trainer and Consultant in Japan, England and Spain. I hold the Trinity CertTESOL, and an MA in Applied Linguistics. I have been a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society since 2014.

I am an active tweeter, and participate in the ELT Ireland #ELTChinwag. I’ve attended the International House YL Conferences in Mataró and Rome, the ELT Conference in Barcelona since 2009, the iELT Innovate Conference in Barcelona in May 2016, organising and presenting at the first International House Eastern Spain YL Conference, and was invited to speak at the annual ELT Ireland in February, 2016 (feedback on my presentation can be found in the April Trinity College London TESOL newsletter). You can find my slides for my presentations on my LinkedIn profile.

My main areas of interest are (very) young learner pedagogy, specifically how beliefs impact lesson planning for these age groups, as well as teacher development and training. Other interests are curriculum design, and conducting action research projects in order to solve the puzzles of my personal teaching context.

I’m based in Barcelona, Spain and can travel to international conferences fairly easily, although in some countries I may need a visa as I am an Australian citizen.
